Local Care in Reno

Your neighborhood local business

A full-service animal hospital is your pet's primary doctor, dentist, surgeon, and pharmacy in one place — wellness exams and vaccines, dental cleanings, spay and neuter, surgery, diagnostics, and care for the day something goes wrong. Keeping it under one roof means one team knows your pet's history, which matters enormously when minutes count.

Outside the area? We'd still love to meet your pet. Plenty of clients make the trip and tell us it's worth it.

What sets the Reno visit apart

Wellness Exams

Nose-to-tail checkups that catch problems early. The single most valuable thing you can do for your pet.

Vaccinations

Core and lifestyle vaccines tailored to your pet's risk — not a one-size-fits-all bundle.

Spay & Neuter

Routine surgery with full pain control and monitoring. Best done at the right age for your pet's breed.

Dental Cleaning

Scaling, polishing, and a full oral exam with X-rays under safe anesthesia. Protects more than the teeth.

What Reno clients say

I have been taking my dog here for years, she sees Dr.(s) Bertucci and they’re fantastic. But today, while bringing her in for her annual lab work, I witnessed something I found to be marvelous and profoundly impressive. An entire family rushed in their injured dog who was clearly in distress, family members and children in tears, and the staff reacted so quickly, calmly and efficiently. Immediately got the dog and family back for care. The waiting room was packed, they’re handling emergencies, and still managed to squeeze my dog in for an additional vaccine she was due for despite it not being scheduled. Over the years I have particularly admired Janelle (pardon if the name is incorrect, she has dark hair and a warm smile). Everyone there is patient, kind and attentive. Highly recommend to anyone in the Reno area. Every single one of you is amazing! What you all do matters SO much.

We really like this veterinarian clinic, they have seen several of our pets over the years. We had to put down an old friend and they are the most professional, understanding, kind, patient and giving people. This one was hard for both of us and the staff did an excellent job handling our specific situation 👏 👍 thank you.

More about local business care in Reno

A diagnostics or surgery estimate for a Reno dog can arrive in one sitting, and it is hard to tell what has to happen now from what can wait. Klaich Animal Hospital is the veterinary hospital in Reno that pairs preventative wellness with in-house orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, then ranks options by urgency before anyone agrees. If a cruciate is torn, a hip needs work, or a senior pet is declining, the first job is a clear plan you can accept, pause, or decline line by line.

Owners from Virginia Lake, South Meadows, Damonte Ranch, Downtown Reno, Midtown Reno, and Northwest Reno use this hospital for wellness exams, vaccinations, and surgical care that stays on site. Dr. Furman and Dr. Catterson have special interest in extensive soft tissue surgery and advanced procedures such as corrective surgery for hip dysplasia and cruciate ligament injuries, neurosurgery, and complex fracture repair. Digital radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy, an in-house laboratory, and laser therapy sit in the same building, so imaging and the next decision do not have to bounce between clinics.

Sparks, Washoe County, and Carson City sit next to Reno, and pets also come from Incline Village, Truckee, and Lake Tahoe when the case is more than a vaccine booster. Visits are by appointment. The hospital has a wheelchair accessible entrance, wheelchair accessible parking, and a wheelchair accessible restroom. Call (775) 826-1212 for an itemized estimate, a second look at a serious diagnosis, or an honest euthanasia conversation that treats that day as care.

Wellness Exams & Vaccinations

Reno households often want to know what a wellness visit includes beyond vaccines and a quick listen to the heart. Preventative care here covers the exam, vaccine boosters when they are due, and a plain ranking of what is urgent versus elective. You leave knowing which findings can wait.

Orthopedic Surgery

When a Reno dog tears a cruciate or needs hip dysplasia surgery, many owners want orthopedic surgery done in this hospital rather than sent out. Cruciate repair, hip work, and fracture repair are performed on site, with the surgical plan explained before anesthesia. Non-emergency pieces can be paused for a second opinion.

Veterinary Dentistry

Dental surgery and oral care come up often for Reno pets, including tooth extractions that were not obvious at drop-off. Set a hard budget before a dental cleaning so a mid-procedure change in the estimate does not land while the pet is still under. Work that can be staged gets named as staged.

Urgent Care

Urgent care for Reno pets is appointment-based, with same-hospital diagnostics instead of a handoff to another building for labs or films. Ear infections, foxtail removal, and pets that looked fine at home but now cannot wait for a routine slot are the usual reasons people call. If the case is not urgent, the team will say so.

Spay & Neuter

Spay and neuter for Reno dogs and cats is scheduled as surgery with an itemized estimate up front, not a surprise invoice after recovery. If a quote feels far from what you expected, asking for a second quote on a non-emergency neuter is a reasonable step. The consent talk covers what is included before the day of surgery.

Soft Tissue Surgery

Soft tissue surgery in Reno is paired with informed consent: each line on the estimate is tied to a finding, and optional add-ons are labeled as optional. A small mass or cyst is not automatically a multi-step specialist workup. You hear what happens if you wait, and what happens if you proceed.

Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery is part of the advanced procedures this Reno hospital performs when the exam and imaging support it. The conversation starts with what the films show, not with a last-resort leap. If a transfer or a pause would serve the pet better than stacking procedures, that option is on the table.

Veterinary Diagnostics

Veterinary diagnostics in Reno use the in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasonography, and endoscopy so a workup does not have to leave the hospital. Screening bundles are separated from findings that change treatment today. You can question a recommended test without being treated as a difficult client.

Pain Management & Laser Therapy

Pain management and laser therapy give Reno pets a medical path when another surgery is not the next right step, especially after a prior emergency already strained the household. The plan names what laser sessions and pain control are meant to change. Watchful waiting is discussed when it is medically reasonable.

Senior Pet Care

Senior pet care in Reno includes preventative lab work and an honest talk when a dog or cat is declining. A serious diagnosis is not the opening line without baseline bloodwork. Euthanasia, when it is discussed, is framed as care, with time to hear options rather than a close.

Parasite Prevention

Parasite prevention sits inside preventative care for Reno pets, including heartworm and fecal testing when those checks belong on the visit. The recommendation is tied to the pet in front of us, not a generic add-on list. Decline paths are named when a product can wait until the next wellness exam.

Veterinary Pharmacy

The veterinary pharmacy, including the online pharmacy, lets Reno owners order pharmaceuticals, prescription diets, supplements, and grooming supplies from home after the visit. Chronic medications are filled against the plan you already agreed to. Refills do not quietly expand into a new workup.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Reno

What is typically included in a wellness visit for a Reno pet besides vaccines?

A wellness exam is a full look at the pet, vaccine boosters when they are due, and time to sort findings into urgent versus elective. Preventative lab work may be recommended, especially for seniors, with a clear note about what the results would change. You get an itemized path, not a single package.

How do I tell necessary diagnostics from optional tests at this Reno hospital?

Ask which result would change treatment this week and which test is screening. Exam findings stay separate from optional bundles, and you can decline a line and still keep the care that cannot wait. On non-emergencies, a pause for a second opinion is invited.

Do you perform cruciate repair and hip dysplasia surgery in Reno, or is that referred out?

Orthopedic surgery, including cruciate repair, hip dysplasia surgery, and fracture repair, is performed in this hospital. You hear the plan, the risks, and what can wait before you say yes. If the case is outside what should be done here, that limit is stated.

How does Klaich handle euthanasia conversations for Reno families?

Euthanasia is treated as care, not a close. Owners who have been through it here describe the staff as professional, understanding, kind, and patient. The talk names medical options first, including pain management and staging, so a yes is informed.
