Truckee
Klaich Animal Hospital in Reno proudly serves patients in Truckee and the surrounding neighborhood — close enough to be convenient, established enough to be the practice your neighbors already recommend.
Visiting from Truckee
Your neighborhood local business
A full-service animal hospital is your pet's primary doctor, dentist, surgeon, and pharmacy in one place — wellness exams and vaccines, dental cleanings, spay and neuter, surgery, diagnostics, and care for the day something goes wrong. Keeping it under one roof means one team knows your pet's history, which matters enormously when minutes count.
Outside the area? We'd still love to meet your pet. Plenty of clients make the trip and tell us it's worth it.

What Truckee clients say
I have been taking my dog here for years, she sees Dr.(s) Bertucci and they’re fantastic. But today, while bringing her in for her annual lab work, I witnessed something I found to be marvelous and profoundly impressive. An entire family rushed in their injured dog who was clearly in distress, family members and children in tears, and the staff reacted so quickly, calmly and efficiently. Immediately got the dog and family back for care. The waiting room was packed, they’re handling emergencies, and still managed to squeeze my dog in for an additional vaccine she was due for despite it not being scheduled. Over the years I have particularly admired Janelle (pardon if the name is incorrect, she has dark hair and a warm smile). Everyone there is patient, kind and attentive. Highly recommend to anyone in the Reno area. Every single one of you is amazing! What you all do matters SO much.
We really like this veterinarian clinic, they have seen several of our pets over the years. We had to put down an old friend and they are the most professional, understanding, kind, patient and giving people. This one was hard for both of us and the staff did an excellent job handling our specific situation 👏 👍 thank you.
Love this vet. Never have an issue about getting my dog right in.
More about local business care in Truckee
Downtown Truckee, Donner Lake, Glenshire, and Prosser Lakeview sit on the California side of a corridor that already runs to Reno for specialist-level pet care. Klaich Animal Hospital is the Reno stop that still does preventative wellness—exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention—and keeps cruciate repair, hip dysplasia surgery, and extensive soft tissue surgery in the same building. You cross for a plan, not for a teaser appointment.
Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, and Washoe County traffic is familiar to Truckee households. What is less familiar is an estimate that ranks tests: what the exam found, what can wait, and what a decline actually risks. Digital radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy, laser therapy, and the in-house laboratory are on site. Appointments are required; wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking, and restroom are available; parking is a paid lot.
Dr. Furman and Dr. Catterson’s surgical focus is the reason orthopedic and neurosurgery cases stay here instead of bouncing. Everyday convenience is the online pharmacy after you are home at Donner Lake. Call (775) 826-1212 before you drop over the pass so the visit exists on the book.
Wellness Exams & Vaccinations
A wellness checkup for a Truckee dog after a move should include the records transfer, the vaccine history, and a physical exam that is more than a stethoscope pass. New-to-the-area owners can ask how this hospital differs from a vaccine clinic and what a health certificate visit would actually include.
Orthopedic Surgery
Ski-season limps and torn cruciates are why Truckee owners ask whether orthopedic surgery is done in-house. Cruciate repair, hip dysplasia surgery, and complex fracture repair are. You get prognosis first, then the estimate, then a chance to pause if it is not an emergency.
Veterinary Dentistry
Veterinary dentistry for mountain households often collides with travel plans. Oral care, anesthetic cleaning, and dental surgery get a pre-op map: what is known, what might be found, and how extractions are handled if you have set a cap.
Urgent Care
Urgent care from Truckee is a timing problem as much as a medical one. Call first. Same-hospital diagnostics keep an emergency visit from becoming a California exam plus a Nevada imaging day with no one holding the whole story.
Spay & Neuter
Spay and neuter for a Glenshire or Prosser Lakeview puppy is scheduled, itemized, and open to a second quote if the number does not match what you were told elsewhere. Healthy elective surgery can wait on clarity.
Soft Tissue Surgery
Soft tissue surgery includes the mass and abdominal cases that look simple until histopathology and overnight hospitalization enter the chat. Informed consent is the rule. Overnight stays, last-resort procedures, and alternatives when treatment fails should be named while you can still choose.
Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery is an advanced in-house procedure, not a brochure line. A Truckee neurologic case gets the imaging plan, the limits, and a straight answer on whether to keep the work here.
Veterinary Diagnostics
Pet diagnostics—bloodwork, radiology, ultrasound, endoscopy—should change a decision. If a Truckee pet looks fine at home and the concern is a lab value, the hospital should explain why the value matters and what happens if you watch it instead of escalating today.
Pain Management & Laser Therapy
Pain management and laser therapy are for the post-op ride back over the pass and for the older dog who still wants the Donner Lake loop. Comfort goals are set in ordinary language: eating, rising, sleeping through the night.
Senior Pet Care
Senior pet care from Truckee includes cancer-diagnosis conversations, chronic condition monitoring, and euthanasia as care when the honest path has run out. No pressure close. Records go with you if you want another clinician’s read.
Parasite Prevention
Parasite prevention does not stop because the household splits time between Truckee and Reno. Preventative care, heartworm testing, and fecal testing get a calendar that matches actual exposure, not a one-size bundle.
Veterinary Pharmacy
After the appointment, the online pharmacy is how Downtown Truckee and Donner Lake homes stay on prescription diets and medications without a second same-week drive for refills.
Frequently Asked Questions — Truckee
Do you see Truckee pets even though the hospital is in Reno, NV?
Yes. Truckee is in the service territory, including Downtown Truckee, Donner Lake, Glenshire, and Prosser Lakeview. The hospital is in Reno, visits are by appointment, and the number is (775) 826-1212.
What should I ask before agreeing to expensive diagnostics or surgery?
Ask what question each test answers, what happens if you decline it, whether a cheaper medically acceptable path exists, and whether a second opinion would delay anything urgent. Itemized estimates and ranked options are how this hospital is supposed to work.
How should euthanasia be presented if our senior dog is declining?
As care, with time, and not as the opening move instead of baseline labs. Owners have described the team as professional and kind on that day. You can ask for the medical versus comfort paths first and still have the harder conversation when it is time.
Will staff get defensive if I have already researched symptoms or another clinic’s plan?
Informed owners are expected. Bring the other estimate, the records, and the questions. The job is to walk through why a recommendation stands or where another clinic’s advice differs—not to win an argument.
